چکیده

A new resource abstraction called Path is introduced in the framework of resource reservation for the optimization of user applications. A network Path is allocated in an on-demand fashion using a number of different signaling methods and is built using a chain of Path Elements that may belong to different administrative domains. Three different implementation technologies are presented: DiffServ, MPLS and the Light Path. We then discuss approaches to the integration of network Paths into the Grid. New and existing mechanisms, leading to novel ways to abstract a network Path, are explored in the area of resource management, advance reservation, authentication, authorization, accounting and coallocation. Finally we show how the support of policy-based co-allocation of path elements across multiple administrative domains can be implemented.

A Reservation Optimised Advance Resource Reservation Scheme for Deploying RSVP in Mobile Environments

One of the major problems of deploying Resource ReSerVation Protocol (RSVP) in mobile environments is called the advance resource reservation (ARR) problem. Conventional solutions to this problem waste too many network resources and increase the new Quality of Service (QoS) session blocking probability. In this paper, we propose a reservation optimised ARR scheme which constrains the number of ...

Source Routing Algorithms for Networks with Advance Reservations

In contrast to immediate reservations where resources are allocated in a just-intime manner, advance reservations which allow to reserve network bandwidth long before it is actually required are an opportunity to provide enhanced functionality in a computer network. In such an environment, source routing algorithms can be applied using an MPLS based network infrastructure with bandwidth brokers...

The Virtual Network Scheduling Problem for Heterogeneous Network Emulation Testbeds

Network testbeds such as Emulab and the Open Network Laboratory use virtualization to enable users to define end user virtual networks within a shared substrate. This involves mapping users' virtual network nodes onto distinct substrate components and mapping virtual network links onto substrate paths. The mappings guarantee that different users' activities can not interfere with one another. T...

Enhanced IMS Handoff Mechanism for QoS Support over Heterogeneous Network

IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) is over IP network architecture, but mobile IP cannot directly support session mobility controlled by session initiation protocol-based signaling. The long signaling delay for session reestablishment in application layer always results in session interruptions during the handoff. Therefore, handoff poses a challenge for quality of service (QoS) maintenance in IMS t...

Data Transfer Scheduling with Advance Reservation and Provisioning

Over the years, scientific applications have become more complex and more data intensive. Although through the use of distributed resources the institutions and organizations gain access to the resources needed for their large-scale applications, complex middleware is required to orchestrate the use of these storage and network resources between collaborating parties, and to manage the end-to-e...
